Thanks to the Spigot Team and Developer Azza005, we've upgraded both the Public and Private Build Servers to 1.8!
This means you can now use your favourite 1.8 blocks in your builds!
How is this possible? Through the magic of plugins!
Did my build break? From what we can see, all builds are perfectly fine! :-)
Did any plugins break? Yes, just HolographicDisplays. This means that you won't get comments on your build, but we'll still be able to review the good old fashioned way!
What about Sponge? We'll review our options when it's released. Obviously, we'll choose whichever shows the most promise, but we can always switch to Spigot or Sponge if one isn't working for us.
Is it buggy or laggy? Who knows?! We haven't thoroughly tested it yet. There's continual updates to go through, so we'll try to keep your experience as fast as possible. From what we've seen so far, it's faster and more responsive than 1.7!
Known Issues Cannot use "/reload", server must be restarted.

Woooo! Lets hope that we don't get any errors! And that we can stay 1.8! Hope to see you all playing!

Looks like Spigot might release version 1.8 soon, but I'm not sure if you need to use jar #1649 and the patcher...

just wait till 1.9,then finally.... MINECRAFT 2.0! Haha, it doesn't work that way. You'll get Minecraft 1.9, then 1.10, then 1.11. However Mojangsters did consider calling 1.10 "2.0" to make a point about how versions are meant to work!

A jump from 1.* to 2.0 would have to be a huge update that completely overturns a lot of the gameplay and such. Usually when games go from version 1 to version 2 it becomes an entirely new and separate program that is considered the next generation of program. Who knows, maybe mojang will release a minecraft 2.0 to replace minecraft 1.*. My guess is that somewhere around 1.12 they will just put all the little ideas they have been working on and implement them in a HUGE UPDATE THAT MAKES MINECRAFT 2X THE AWESOMENESS lol ...or they change the gameplay a whole lot, it ruins minecraft's essence of complex simplicity, and all of the fans abandon minecraft for other PC games and the super-hardcore fans just redownload the old version of minecraft and play that. Oh the possibilities of the future.

All 1.7/1.8 did were add new blocks and more commands and stuff. Didn't change much gameplay. I don't see why you WOULDN'T play 1.8, unless you are using mods that don't work on 1.8.

It's not as simple, but it definitely creates a wider variety of landscapes so you can find just what you are looking for as a place for a cool build.
