hey guys, what i was thinking is that it would be cool to use a plugin to be able to choose a race from humans, dwarves, elves, and urgals. the plugin would give different abilities depending on the race and you race would show up below you name tag (in minecraft). I dont know how this would work, except with maybe potion effects but it would be great.

Some things to think about are that we want to keep everything open to everyone, not set to a specific race. We'll take a look into it and post here if anything is decided! :-)

During roleplay, players can call themselves an elf, human, dwarf, urgal, or any other beast. We want to keep everything as simple as possible - even using commands for the magic plugin goes too far, which is why we're planning a feature where a player can "cast" a spell on an object to use it as a "wand", similar to Essentials PowerTool.

well, have you looked at the gildorym (hope i spelled that right) rpg server? It uses the dungeons and dragons system,i played on it for a bit and you choose a race, a class and a name, then you're off to do whatever you want in the world (p.s. it uses plugins).

Remember that we're not even in closed BETA yet. Many things can, and will, change, however we'd like to experiment with our planned features before adding on to them :-)

There's quite a lot of different things that can be unlocked by researching (see recent video on MCAlagaesia Quest Collection) or by visiting places, or by finding objects and items. Nobody will be doing the exact same thing with all this variety, but what the planned system does is allow you to do everything, not just things limited by your class.

I'm new here, but I would certainly love to see the implementation of different races into the game, and would love it if they all had their own unique special abilities. The way I see it, certain classes wouldn't restrict you to anything, but would simply provide something to the player that would allow them to do as they wish. A great example of this would be the different races in skyrim, you can do anything as any race, certain races just make it easier to do certain things.
Just a thought of mine, can't wait to see how the server progresses, and hope to be able to become a builder and help make it happen!

I like that idea, like Urgals having permanent resistance, elves having speed, dwarves having haste(not sure what this would be used for since it is and RPG server ) and humans having... something else. But I definitely believe that the races should be distinct, and have each of their start off tutorials be different, but end up being able to do the some quests and everything.

And I would also like to see the elves be a kind of superior race (like have speed one, resistance one and jump boost maybe, still kinda keeping them balanced to other races but better, because that's how they are in the books) but still not be truly superior. And also once you become a dragon rider you should slowly start gaining more buffs, and more powerful buffs on that. and also if you choose urgal you should have a 20% chance to become a Kull.

That's exactly what I was thinking, but because I couldn't think of any buffs that would make sense for humans, and it needs to still be balanced. I figured that elves, dwarves, and urgals should also have some derps or debuffs. For example, the elves might only be able to eat fruits and vegatables (potatoes, apples, carrots, etc.), the urgals could get attacked on sight by all AI (not sure how this would work, might be able to give animals damage values?), and the dwarves might not be able to attack from as far away as the other races (Just one or two blocks less would make sense). I don't know if any of this is possible but it would certainly add some depth to the game!

Righteo! Perhaps each time you die you have to select a different race from the one you just died as. This will "force" players to try everything instead of sticking with the race that they think is best.
