personally, i love minecraft, and most people reading this will as well, but i think minecraft is kind of getting a bit detracted by all the new updates that keep streaming out. i mean, bunnies were ok for 1.8 but they dont add much, same with the three new stones. Does anyone else think that minecraft should start putting better stuff in updates?

nearly everyone agrees with you that the updates 'are only releasing a new 16 bit texture every couple of months'

Even the simplest new mechanic or block opens up a whole new vista of possibilities for plugins, mods, creations, videos, ideas, servers, discussions and the creative outlet that is the Minecraft community.

The entire purpose of mods (and plugins are a type of mod) are to add all the stuff you just listed.

As for plugins, they cannot add blocks to the game, only change the function of an existing block within certain limitations.

The point is that a mod can do anything that a vanilla update would do, either overwriting class files or by using a piece of magic called ASM. For plugins, (if you don't mind using mods, like me and unlike most people) you can get people to install small client-side mods. But it is certainly true that plugins are a type of mod (and I think you can actually use ASM in Bukkit plugins).

Listen to this guy, hes a modder xD I am probably going to be learning Java next summer so I'll soon be modding my way through minecraft. It seriously opens up so many possibilities and applications for minecraft that vanilla doesn't offer. And Mojang openly supports modding of minecraft which is very helpful for those programmers out there who want to bend minecraft to their will

And then you could work for MCAlagaesia, bringing the unique ideas we discuss on this forum to life. Could you be the one that gets a dragon in the air? That's what we're putting on the recruitment brochures.

I'm going on vacation this week so while I'm away from home I'll look at Bukkit plugin coding. Don't expect anything until mid-January though, I have some non-minecraft projects that need finishing up first. I'd like to think I'll be the one but minecraftthings and azza005 kinda have it covered...

He teaches basic Java through Bukkit, so you're really hitting 2 birds with one stone. There's no prior knowledge required. www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwXzeQT80wzEwvKrlrOi3xfr5RpuPtsh-
