It has to be small for the hypothetical lower class citizen; not everyone in an rpg can have a mansion. Except elves. There were no lower class elves, as every elf had exactly what he or she wanted. If an elf was unskilled in a particular area of magic, friends and family provided what they couldn't. If we do it like this, it might pay to have elves be an "unlockable" race to play. what i mean is that you have to play on the server a while (a week? a month?) before you can choose to play as it. might be a bad idea but it would be an incentive to new players to stay on a bit.

Hmm... I like it. It would be like being a server VIP due to time spent. But to start can builders automatically have it unlocked so we have at least a small population of elves? ("we" assuming that I can get builder before launch... :/)Extension of this idea: what if everybody started as a human, and over time unlocks new races, first to unlock being dwarves, then urgals, then elves. This would mean the majority of the population would (for a while) be humans like in the book, and would balance the races because being an Elf would have a lot of advantages but would be hard to get. And like I said builders having access to all races on launch would be nice...

Plus, the elves would be the most "experienced" players having put the most time into the server, and dwarves a little below that, then urgals, etc. So it could be more like a rank. And who DOESN'T want to be a builder?? xD

I think that's what the private server kinda is though for the devs.. A place where they test everything out. And we will just do that when it is actually open to the public. The first couple weeks might be a little shaky but then it'll all be balanced and bug free hopefully.

Doesn't the dev team have plugins loaded onto the build server though? Or do the devs just use a localhost server individually to test them?

the build server isnt JUST for the devs, its also for the builders. Doesn't the dev team have plugins loaded onto the build server though? Or do the devs just use a localhost server individually to test them? We test all our plugins on our own localhost servers. If something goes wrong we can fix it faster, also if our plugins crash our test server it's okay but if it crashed the RPG server it could corrupt the map. It's also faster for us to test them because we don't need to re-upload them to our host. Once we are sure we have all the bugs fixed we then upload it to the RPG server.
