There were too many threads with random bits on the about different Mobs being reskinned and getting their AI changed, so I decided to make an official thread for it to organize everything. So far these are the confirmed and suggested retextures and mobs that will be used for the models. On the subject of spirits, I believe they should be blazes, seeing as the blazes emit the smoke particle which would be very fitting, and I think that the ghasts would fit better as Lethrblaka.
Dragons-
Stage one, Flightless, baby dragon - Silverfish
Stage two, flies around you, medium dragon - Bat
Stage three, flies everywhere, can carry you, large dragon - Dragon
Urgals-
Regular Urgals - Zombie Pigman
(unconfirmed, possibility) Kull - Enderman
Spirits-
Spirits, fly around and perform various acts of magic - Blaze
(Unconfirmed, possibility) Raz'zac-
Raz'zac - Unknown
Lethrblaka - Ghast
Shades-
Shades, very rarely spawn around the map, extremely dangerous - Witches
Werecats-
Werecats, rare random spawns, may give snipets of useful riddles or other things - Ocelots/Cats

Alright! You can confirm Spirits as Blazes, once retextured they should suit the role more than ghasts.
You can add Shades (Witches) and Werecats (Ocelots and Cats) to the list too!

I have fallen in love with this thread! I didn't even know it was created until I scrolled down through here...
I was thinking, what if we retextured a zombie villager or something to be a shade (would require quite a bit of AI changes, but keep readin). This would then open up witches as Ra'zac, which I believe would be more fitting because they could poison you, would be cloaked, and have big noses... Also would require some AI modification, but it could work. As for ghasts being Lethrblaka, is the shape going to be close enough to edit with custom textures? I didn't really see how the shape of ghasts fit with the shape of Lethrblaka, seeing as they are more dragon-like. If it works though, I'm cool with it!
Regardless of what mob is modified to create them, Seithr oil is a must. Just saying.

Lol why would Seithr oil be anything other than an item? xD also, can anybody think of uses of the wither and the guardian (big and small versions) and other unused and uncommon mobs? I'm trying to think of ways to make some of the animals from the Beor mountains, but no mobs really seem to fit any of them :/ ideas anybody?

So is this a confirmed change of Shades to Zombie Villagers, and Raz'zac to witches?
Also, would it be possible to change the properties of carpets to do damage, so that seithr oil could be placed as (retextured carpet) to set traps and such, it would have to use some color that no one uses though. You could also rename the items to Seithr oil and make it so that you can only get them from predesignated chest to make sure when they spawn in, they'll spawn with the "Seithr Oil" name. Im no coder so I know this probably wont work, but if you can get an idea from this then sweet.

Actually you could probably just retexture a poison potion and make it more potent, like Poison IV or something

It'd be simpler and make more sense to just leave it a potion and make a dispenser to shoot them. And changing them was just a suggestion, I'm not sure if it would be good or not.

Or we could add a crafting recipe for every item: Place the oil and an item in a crafting area and the item becomes smothered in Seithr Oil. You can then quickly give the item to someone else or put it in a chest. When a player holds the item in their hands, they'll take damage and see a message "The {ItemName} is burning your hands!"
Throwing the item in a full cauldron or combining it with a water bottle in a crafting area will remove the effects of the oil.

If the oil is a splash potion, then throwing it on a block should also coat that surface so if anyone touches that surface they are burned. But I like the Seithr oil covered item idea.

Will dragons still have wings as hatchlings?

we should make the Ra'zac wither skeletons, it makes perfect sense. they are slighty taller than other mobs, so they are unique and they give off wither poisoning, which is like their breath. maybe we could alter it so it affects players from over a block away?

For that, we'll have to store information in the block itself. No easy way to do that quickly comes to mind, so we'll have to think about that. We could store blocks in a HashMap, however a server reboot would wipe that data. We could also use a config file, but that creates unnecessary read/write cycles, putting strain on the HDD/SSD. We'll be sure to write this down and look into it more, when we get the dragons flying. Minecraftthing.
